This is Ha Noi, Vietnam. On November 17-19, General Luong Cuong, who serves as the Chairman of the General Department of Politics within the Vietnam People's Army (VPA), will be leading a delegation that will be traveling to Laos for the purpose of making an official visit.
A courtesy call was paid by Cuong on November 17 to Party General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, as well as to Minister of National Defense General Chansamone Chanyalath. Additionally, Cuong met with Senior Lieutenant General Thongloi Silivong, who is the Deputy Minister of National Defense and Chairman of the General Department of Politics for the Lao People's Army (LPA).
Thongloun emphasized that the visit of Cuong would contribute to the development of the great friendship, unique solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation that exists between the two Parties, States, and people of Vietnam and Laos.
Cuong sent his best wishes to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, as well as to Party General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, as well as to other high-ranking authorities in Laos.
He highlighted the political and diplomatic activities that were held at all levels within the framework of the Vietnam-Laos, Laos-Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022. In particular, he highlighted the ceremony that was held to celebrate the 60th founding anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties and the 45th years of the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation between the two countries. This ceremony was co-chaired by the two Party General Secretaries in Hanoi and Vientiane in July of last year.
According to him, the two ministries of defense have also coordinated in the process of building and implementing celebration plans with nearly thirty practical activities. He also mentioned that during his visit, the two armies will organize more meaningful activities, such as an exchange between young officers and an art performance show.
When the opportunity presented itself, he took advantage of it to express his gratitude to the Lao side for its assistance in the search for and return of the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who had given their lives during the conflict in Laos.
Cuong paid a courtesy visit to General Chansamone Chanyalath, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Laos, on the same day. During the visit, the Vietnamese officer expressed his hope that the Lao government, the Ministry of National Defense, the Lao People's Army, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense himself will further facilitate the search and repatriation work.
In the course of the discussions that took place between Cuong and Thongloi Silivong, the two parties discussed the current state of affairs in the area and the world as a whole, analyzed the extent to which they had worked together in the past, and made suggestions for how they may work together in the future.
